In the golf universe, Costa del Sol is in a league of its own. With more than 80 first-class courses, it is one of the most popular golf destinations in Europe. Millions of tourists come to the south of Spain every year to enjoy Costa del Sol Golf Courses and the tourist attractions in this region.

The initial presence of the legendary Scottish sport in Costa del Sol can be found at the Parador Málaga Golf, the oldest course in Andalusia. It is an 18-hole course designed by the British Tom Simpson and opened in 1925. It was redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Later down the line in 1956 and has hosted countless national and European Tour competitions.

Is good to note that today golf can be played in all the regions around Costa del Sol. There are eighty-three golf courses in Andalusia, thirty in Marbella, sixteen in Malaga, four in Almeria and two in Granada.

There are golf courses for all tastes, possibilities, and levels in Andalusia. Without a doubt, Finca Cortesin Golf, La Reserva at Sotogrande, La Quinta Golf Course, Valderrama Golf Club and San Roque stand out, among many others.

Designer Cabell Robinson arrived in Spain in 1970 and since then has been involved in the main golf projects in Costa del Sol. Finca Cortesin Golf (par 72 and 6,946 yards) is one. It is currently considered one of the best courses in Europe and hosts an academy supervised by Jack Nicklaus.

Another great course that bears Robinson's signature is La Reserva at Sotogrande (par 72 and 6,721 yards). It is a fantastic field with undulating fairways surrounded by almond, cork and olive trees and offers a spectacular view of the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.

Similarly, Manuel Piñero left his mark on La Quinta Golf Course, a beautiful 27-hole complex that has hosted top-ranked competitions, including the Benahavis Senior Masters and the Spanish Ladies Open.

It is clear (as there are no doubts) that one of the most recognized courses is Valderrama Golf Club (par 72 and 6,987 yards). This is the result of the genius work of Robert Trent Jones Sr. Every golf fan wants to visit the place and play on this fantastic course. It was the venue for some significant world golf tournaments, including the 1997 Ryder Cup, won by Europe.

Marbella boasts 30 first-class courses in which the presence of Robert Trent Jones Sr. stands out once again. Marbella Golf & Country Club, Mijas Golf (Los Olivos), Los Naranjos Golf Course and Real Club de Golf Las Brisas are some of the designs that have his sign.

Founded in 1968, Las Brisas is an excellent course that deserves its Royal status. It was redesigned by Kyle Phillips in 2015 and is among the top 100 courses in Europe.

Meanwhile, there are more than 15 courses in Malaga, and many of them stand out for their excellent designs. We dare to say that a must-stop is the Real Guadalhorce Golf Club. It was initially designed by Finn Kosti Kuronen and redesigned by his star member, Miguel Angel Jiménez. With an ever-present family atmosphere all around, Guadalhorce invites you to enjoy a unique atmosphere that is difficult to find on other golf courses.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that Almeria has four golf courses (one of them is the spectacular Almerimar Golf complex), and Granada has two clubs (Granada Golf Club, founded in 1986, and Santa Clara Granada).
