Golf has been played in Catalonia for more than 100 years. The Barcelona Golf Club foundation dates back to 1912, followed by the construction of 9 holes in Pedralbes the following year, which marked the arrival of the legendary Scottish sport to the northeast of Spain. Since then, golf courses have spread and multiplied around Barcelona and have continued to expand, especially along the coastal strip that we know as Costa Brava.

Currently, 16 top-level golf courses are stretched throughout this beautiful region, nine specifically located along Costa Brava, while the remaining seven are set on the outskirts of Barcelona.

Undoubtedly, the best of all the courses on Costa Brava is the PGA Catalunya Golf & Wellness Stadium Course. Its design (par 72 and 7,282 yards) belongs to Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles, with the collaboration of David Williams. Located only 45 minutes from Barcelona, it was part of a great European Tour project that began in the late 1990s. It hosted the Gene Sarazen World Open, the Spanish Open and on several occasions, the final of the European Tour Qualifying School. Its younger sister is the Tour Course (par 72 and 6,545 yards) which is just as attractive and more accessible to fans. Famous for its flawless service, PGA Catalunya is considered one of the best resorts in Europe, and the Stadium Course is one of the 10 best courses to play golf on the continent.

Also among the fan's choices is the Real Club de Golf El Prat. It was founded in 1954 and is one of the most emblematic clubs in Catalonia. Its current location dates back to the end of the 90s. It offers its visitors the possibility to play both courses (pink and yellow) conceived by Greg Norman. El Prat has hosted numerous competitions from the European and Challenge Tour, including the Spanish Open.

Empordá Golf Resort and its two courses deserve a separate chapter: Forest (par 72 and 6,782 yards) and Links (par 71 and 6,922 yards). Both courses were designed by Robert Von Hagge, who used the toponymy and vegetation of the place in favour of a challenging design. Forest is among the best 40 golf courses in Spain and stands out for its breathtaking views. Both Forest and the Link course have been the venue for competitions of enormous international hierarchy.

Further north, the TorreMirona Golf & Spa Resort is an excellent option for those who, in addition to playing golf, are looking for other entertainment. Its idyllic setting is marked by the beauty of the Pyrenees and the local vegetation. The TorreMirona Golf Course (par 72 and 6,722 yards) was designed by Eugenio Aguado and Jordi Soler and has been hosting countless times as the qualifying school for both the European Tour and the Legends Tour.
