We've played Ombria twice now as a group of 12/16 players. Additionally I've played the course 4/5 separate occasions. The layout of the course, especially the front nine is exceptional and is blended skilfully into the landscape. The clubhouse facilities are first class.
That said, this was the least enjoyable round we've played there.
The course was exceptionally busy with many groups queuing particularly on the back to back par 3's. Etiquette of some of these players left a lot to be desired. Better spacing of tee times, ie 10-12 slots rather than current arrangements would help solve this.
I think this needs resolving soon before the course gets an undeserved reputation.

After a short drive into the foothills we received a warm welcome at Ombria golf course - we were met in the car park by a member of the team in a buggy ready to take us (and our clubs) up to the clubhouse. We were then set up with our own buggies and introduced to the course before teeing off - lovely day, lovely (challenging) course. We will definitely be back.

A unique track with two very differing nines. Spectacular setting in a valley for the first 9 with elevated tees and fabulous views. Accuracy off the tees will set you up for approaches. If you are wayward bring plenty of balls with you. Second 9 is a much gentler experience. We started on Hole 1 which was not usual as most starts are off the 10th. Buggy essential for all but the superhuman. Great course, nice facilities. Overall, a top afternoon out.

A beautiful but, difficult new golf course (take enough balls with you).
It is the 2nd time we have played here. We were there when the course was just open in 2024.
The course is very challenging, especially the 1st nine, which are more attractive than the 2nd. This is, of course, a personal opinion.
The staff are super friendly, especially the Marshall, who thinks outside the box. Because it was quite busy, he had figured it would be smarter for us to start on hole 10. Unfortunately, even there it was busy, so finally, we started on the 17th hole. Regrettably, from Hole 5, we ran into the flight ahead of us who had started on Hole 1 about the same or slightly ahead of us on Hole 17. But they also ran into the flight in front of them. A (Dutch) group of approx. 12 people (and from my point of view, they had a big gap ahead of them).
The Marshal informed us when he brought us to the 17th hole that if we wanted, we could play holes 17 & 18 a second time, but after all the waiting (we had played some of the greens a few times), we thought it was enough and returned to the clubhouse.
As for the green fee, we had a nice special rate, the winter rate, that was very pleasant.
I wish to point out that the normal green fees are much more expensive, but that is nowadays applicable to all golf courses in the Algarve.
This is very regrettable, I think, that green fees in the Algarve are getting too expensive. Especially as a flight is almost always booked up. I am not in favour of this. Especially not when I have to pay more than €150 for a round of golf.
The Ombria complex is very nice, especially now that the hotel, apartments, restaurants, etc... are as good as finished.
In my opinion, if you stay in Ombria you will be fully accommodated to all your wishes and have a great.
As for us, we would love to come back, but with a special green fee deal !!

Ombria is a fabulous golf course, it is marked well but there are a few holes it could have been marked out better, especially on the front 9, when you go up the mountain to play a par 4 and you are facing a par 3 green. Also when going from the 8th hole to the 9th was quite confusing and time is lost trying to figure out which direction to go. Greens were good. Staff in the club house were very helpful. The only thing that spoilt our day was the torrential rain.

This new course is maturing well. The front 9 are quite tricky, particularly the second hole, and there are some very interesting elevated tees.
I think you need to play it quite a few times to understand where to position your ball on the par 5s, and club selection for the par 3s.
The back 9 is more open and a little more friendly.
Overall a very good addition to the Algarve although a little way out of Vilamoura (30 minute drive).

I had originally booked a 9.00am tee time and recived a confirmation email. Ten minutes later I received another email stating a 9.20 tee time. I checked with tee times.pt and they confirmed 9.20. Imagine my surprise when we arrived at Ombria reception to have them say no it’s 9.00am. Fortunately we had just enough time to get to the tee, but it confused the caddie master and we didn’t our clubs back for 15minutes.
Very pleasant staff everywhere , and the introduction chat on the first tee even included the offer that as the club has no practice facilities, every golfer is allowed a mulligan from the mountain edge that is the first tee.
What the starter should have told everyone was it was their duty to repair their pitch marks on the green, as sadly the greens were riddled with them, and I found myself repairing up to 6 on every hole! When will these ‘golfers’ ever learn?
There didn’t appear to be any dress code at the club, as I saw two 30 somethings playing in tee shirts, beach shorts and trainers. Is it really asking too much to wear a polo shirt?
Our biggest gripe was the completely inadequate course green to tee direction markings, tiny signs placed in the wrong place made us go wrong several times, including at the 8th, where we naturally followed the path up and ended up on the road, which caused the buggy to be locked from going forward, so I ad no choice but to reverse out onto the road and somehow back down to the path, crazy!
Having played the 17th, we followed the only route all the way up the same path as the one serving the 10th, and isn’t wide enough for two carts to pass. Eventually arriving at the 18th, perched high up across from the car park ,you are faced with one of the most disappointing closing holes I’ve ever played. Blind dogleg left at just 274m. It’s blind becuase of the trees , and the only way to see the hole was to walk all the way to the front tees and peek round. I’m guessing it’s meant to be a risk or reward hole as the green is drivable , but for goodness sake cut down the trees to allow the view and hole to taken in.
Lastly having played the 18th, you have to drive all the way back up the same path, so you are at risk of being hit by the following group s drives. Back at the road, there were NO signs whatsoever showing you the way back to the clubhouse.
Overall, it was a visually pleasing course although very short in comparison to most courses.

The course was an interesting and challenging. Very helpful, friendly staff, made special sandwich and meal for a Gluten Free member of our group which was most appreciated. Would be nice to see GF options on the menu and once the resort is more busy may be opportune to offer food later than 5.00pm. But no negatives for us, we would certainly recommend the course and play there again.

Ombria certainly has the wow factor , the location , valley ,clubhouse and superb opening 9 holes keep the wow factor high , although the back 9 whilst ok was relatively bland compared to the start. Hard to see where the driving range would go, The opening 9 have a strong similarity to Zagaletta nr Marbella , but that continues the wow throughout, including the service and practice facilities

12 GOLFERS RANGING FROM 5 HANDICAPPER TO 26 HANDICAPPER . 11 OUT OF 12 PLAYERS UNHAPPY WITH DAY. CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ASSIGNESD A COURSE RATING OF 68.6 AND SLOPE 127 WHICH MEANT EVERY PLAYER PLAYED OFF A LESSER HANDICAP THAN NORMAL. THE FIRST TEE SHOT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS PLAYERS ARE APPROACHING ON THE 8TH FAIRWAY VERY CLOSE TO THE FIRST FAIRWAY. THE STARTER TOLD US TO TEE OFF REGARDLESS. (WE DIDN'T). THE FIRST 8 HOLES ARE A MESS OF A DESIGN WITH HOLES VERY CLOSE TOGETHER AND CONFUSING CARTPATHS WITH TRAFFIC IN TWO DIRECTION AT TIMES. HOLE 9 TO 18 MUCH BETTER. CONDITION OF FAIRWAYS AND GREENS WAS EXCELLENT ALL ROUND, BUT SCRUB AREAS ON THE FAR SIDE OF PATHS GAVE NO REAL RELIEF IF YOUR BALL WAS ON THE PATH AT THAT SIDE.
BUGGIES HAS NO ICEBOX, NO WATER SUPPLIED AND NO SAND IN DIVOT FILLER. THE FOOD CART WAS PROMPT AND AVAILABLE BUT EXPENSIVE.
IN SHORT NOT A SUITABLE COURSE FOR RESORT GOLF, WON'T BE BACK

Probably the most beautiful course I have played . Absolutely stunning course , it's challenging and probably not for the high handicapper. Lots of elevated tees and tricky greens and lots of hard pin placements . This will be a great resort once finished. Only downsides are that they need to sort GPS on buggies ..... on the second we could only drive down the fairway backwards otherwise the buggy stopped and wouldn't allow us to go forwards .... not ideal ???? some of the signage on the front 9 was hard to follow as up and down the hillside which meant we were a little slow. Talking to others that day they had the same issues ! Don't let this deter you though . Restaurant is very pricey for small portions ......

I played Ombria for the 1st time a few weeks ago. I’m looking forward to getting back there having a feel now for how to play the course. 2 different nines with front having a lot of water and a premium on positional shot-making. The back a bit more open. The course is in excellent condition and you want a bit of wind to make it that much more interesting. The staff are very friendly and represent this 1st class facility well.

Was excited to play a new course but expectations were not met. Lack of driving range /nets disappointing for the green fee - so you tee off cold. Back nine were OK but still tight and front nine far too narrow and tricked up par threes - as built 9 holes on too small a piece of land. Would not rush back nor would the 2 groups we met whilst playing. Property development looks lovely - modern twist on a traditional hill top village.Just shame about the course

Awesome course set into the spectacular natural beauty of the mountain tops not far from Loule. The front 9 offers a real challenge with its many elevated tee shots including the signature 3rd hole and tricky long sloping greens meaning precision of approach shot is of critical importance to avoid several 3 putt likelihoods! I found this out at my cost!
Back 9 a bit more straightforward but equally beautiful. Will definitely be back again
