Santa Maria Golf & Country Club is located east of Marbella near Hotel Don Carlos at the Costa del Sol in Spain. Opened in 1991 Santa María Golf previously was a 9-hole golf course designed by Antonio García Garrido. After finishing the second nine, designed by it's own technical staff, 5 years later in 1996 the golf course is now sited in two valleys in the hills in a surrounding with beautiful views. The golf course is not too difficult to play with its wide fairways particularly on the back nine. Besides golf, the Santa María Resort offers other facilities like tennis courts, swimming pools and the Santa María Bowls Club, an official bowls club.

We loved Santa Maria Golf course. We were greeted cordially in the pro shop and the starter was very helpful. Some holes were quite challenging with long carries off the tee box, but for the most part the fairways were wide open and in good condition. Greens were a bit slow in the morning due to the evening rain. The rain made play cart path only, but pace of play was perfect. We never had to wait on a hole or felt rushed. A really nice touch was complimentary beverage coupons for the restaurant. The locker room was the nicest locker room I've seen with large, impeccably clean, modern facilities, multiple showers and large lockers. Several toilet facilities were well placed on the course, as well. The only negatives was that buggies did not have GPS, nor was there a map of the course, so we had to rely on the hole configuration sign for the hole layout and fairway markers for distances. Santa Maria is a beautiful course that we would play again.

Really nice course in good condition. Pace of play was also good.Great views, but quite hilly.
