Unfortunately the course was in poor condition due to the amount of recent rainfall. A very tired complex but a great course design, it really needs investment in both the infrastructure and the course.

The course is a good golf challenge. However its current standard of maintenance is poor, particularly the quality of the tee boxes & bunkers. There were areas of some fairways that were destroyed by what we assume are animals, possibly wild boar. The greens however were good. The pro shop welcome was efficient but by no means was it warm, friendly or welcoming.

Arrived at 9.30 for our 10.16 tee time and were informed that there were no buggies available as we hadn’t booked any. We have been going on golf trips to Spain and Portugal for 25 years and have never had to prebook buggies. We were told to come back 10 mins before our tee time and maybe 2 would be available. Eventually 4 mins before our tee time 2 buggies were “found”. Also no food was available at clubhouse until 10.30.

Friendly staff but course has seen its best a long time ago… driving range does not deserve its name with balls that are probably 10 years old and worn out… the course itself is ok but rough at the edges… hard to justify the greenfee I paid…

First time I played Penina Championship. The ruff was difficult after long period of rain. Tough course but specially number 12 and 13. A bit disappointing bad condition of many of the tees and the speed of the greens was not consistent. Very demanding course to play.

It was nice to at last visit Penina today as hadn’t done previously. However we were extremely disappointed with a few aspects of our visit. We do not intend to visit again as a result.
Firstly we arrived to be told that there were no buggies or electric trolleys left, but we could have pull trolleys. However it did appear that hotel guests all had buggies reserved for them.
Secondly, the course was really in a terrible dried out state with very little grass on fairways etc. such a shame as could see that the layout was really good with well defined holes.
Today, the course was extremely busy. Waits at every hole.
No sign of any drinks buggy out on course.
Overall a very poor experience.

We have played Penina Championship many times over the years and always found it a good challenge. This year the course seems to have suffered from lack of attention, particularly on the tee boxes and fairways. Hopefully these will be addressed and the course will comeback to its former glory.

A beautifully set up course but the water all round the course looks stagnant and smells. It is such a shame. Money needs to be spent on the course and the hotel. But enjoyed. Almost don't want to rate it highly as it may stop the owners spending money.

A great Henry Cotton layout spoilt by poorly maintained fairways and almost unplayable bunkers… they have not been raked after the heavy prolonged rain and are compacted sand. A real shame but the course just felt a little neglected.
