Palomarejos Golf is a unique and comfortable 18-hole par 72 course spread over a 160-hectare estate. It is designed to adapt to all levels of play and its route is entertaining and restful for the player.
The first test of the Alps Tour to be contested in Europe in 2023 is the Alps de las Castillas, which will take place next week at Palomarejos Golf, in Centre Spain.
“The golf course is considered a wolf in sheep's clothing. It appears to be an easy course, but in reality it is very technical, with obstacles in ball drop zones that force you to think carefully about the strategy in each hole due to its peculiarity and its risk”, says Ernesto Gonzalez, director of Palomarejos Golf.
Palomarejos Golf maintains its eco-friendly status. In addition to water conservation, efficiency in water use, and ecosystem consolidation, the club invests in green, clean, and renewable energies for clubhouse self-consumption and golf course maintenance.
Palomarejos Golf followed the Royal Spanish Golf Federation's Green Section's guidelines to hold the Alps de Las Castillas. Head greenkeeper Javier Fuentes and his colleagues have worked hard to maintain the golf course.
“Maintenance planning in recent months has been aimed at improving the most critical areas of the game path. For this we have paid special attention in different areas of the golf course“, explains Fuentes.
“Palomarejos Golf greens are USGA-compliant. Reseeding with 'Agrostis stolonifera' has been done in those who needed it, and a nutritional plan has been implemented to meet tournament standards for density but minimal growth to improve ball rolling and speed”, he adds.
“Similarly to the greens, the tee platforms have been levelled and treated with a puncture, verticutts, dressing and fertilising programme”, Fuentes continues.
According to Fuentes, “the fairways are not overly broad if we compare them to commercial golf courses, but they are wide enough to accept shots with woods without risking losing the ball. Its cut is clearly defined, and it was created on loamy-sandy land, so it can be played in light rain”.
The head greenkeeper of the golf course concludes by saying that in recent months, Palomarejos Golf invested in a new 'rough' machine to prepare the course for the Alps de Las Castillas.
