Portugal golf holidays - Lisbon Sports Club

Lisbon Sports Club Belas, Lisbon

Lisbon Sports Club is located in the Sierra Carregueira, a rural mountainous region, about 20km from Lisbon, 18 holes - Par 69. This Golf Course is the oldest in Lisbon and the clubhouse is steeped in history. Throughout its 5261 meters, lies a rich forest biodiversity and a watercourse accompanies almost the whole route, creating a few traps along the way. Narrow tee shots and some blind shots to small greens, all add to the challenge of this golf course. Pay attention on the 16th, par 5, don't go too far past the zebra post on your 2nd shot as there is a ravine hiding a large stream before the green. The golf course is quite rustic and not manicured at all, it has a good feel to it, players are immersed in nature. There are some lovely views with no houses and a lot of trees. Most of the tees are elevated, therefore a buggy is most definitely recommended.  (...)

Portugal golf holidays - Belas Clube de Campo Golf Course

Belas Clube de Campo Golf Course Belas, Lisbon

Belas club the golf, designed by the prestigious American architect Rocky Roquemore, is a ''Championship Golf Course'' with an exceptional layout, due to some fairways and greens deployed in deep valleys that offers unforgettable panoramic views and stunning scenery. A meeting point with nature. Being only 20 minutes from center of Lisbon by car. Belas Country Club’s golf is the first golf course in Europe to have an ISO flag and the first in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula to have GEO (Golf Environment Organisation) certification, an international distinction of great notoriety, establishing an exemplary relationship with its partners. (...)

Portugal golf holidays - Quinta da Marinha Golf Course

Quinta da Marinha Golf Course Cascais, Lisbon

Quinta da Marinha was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr and opened in 1984, laid out across 110 hectares of pine estate on the Estoril coast near Cascais, about 25 kilometres from Lisbon. The course predates the resort hotel that later grew up around it by a decade and a half, and it still carries the hallmarks of a genuine Trent Jones design.
Elevated tees and greens, generous bunkering, and narrow driving corridors reward accuracy over power throughout. The par-four 3rd, sloping down to the sea, was for years the picture used to promote golf in Portugal abroad. The 4th plays over a ravine to a demanding green, the 13th crosses a lake to a well-bunkered target, and the round closes at the 18th with two lakes guarding the way home. The course has hosted the Ladies Masters, the PGA Seniors Tour Championship, and a Challenge Tour event.
Facilities include a driving range, golf academy, resident professionals, and a clubhouse restaurant and snack bar. Book Quinta da Marinha through Tee Times, and pair it with neighbouring Oitavos Dunes for two very different rounds on the same stretch of coast. (...)

Portugal golf holidays - Golf Estoril

Golf Estoril Estoril, Lisbon

Golf Estoril, above the Atlantic, this is one of Portugal's oldest and most storied golf clubs. The original nine holes date to 1929, redesigned and expanded by the Scottish architect Philip Mackenzie Ross in 1936. For around twenty years it hosted the Portuguese Open, and for more than sixty it staged the Portuguese International Amateur Championship, drawing some of the game's biggest names to its fairways over the decades.
This is a course built for accuracy, not distance. Fairways run tight between eucalyptus, pine and mimosa, and the small, well-defended greens punish anything loose. The par-3 13th, Patiño's hole, doglegs sharply right to a raised green, while the par-3 16th, at 186 metres, is widely reckoned one of the best holes in Portugal. Book this if you want history and shot-making over sheer length.
Some development work is currently under way near the clubhouse, so expect a little construction alongside your round for now, but it hasn't dented what regulars keep coming back for: greens and fairways are consistently well kept, and the traditional clubhouse remains one of the most characterful in Portuguese golf. With Estoril's casino, beach and restaurants all a short walk away, this is the round to build a Lisbon coast day around. For golfers who want to walk fairways that have shaped a century of Portuguese golf, book Estoril. (...)
