The leader of the Madeiran Government, Miguel Albuquerque, said that Madeira and Porto Santo aim to position themselves as ideal destinations for golf holidays.
When asked about the significance of the project for the new Ponta do Pargo golf course, Miguel Albuquerque brought up its relevance. To quote the regional president: “We are moving forward with one of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe, which will be situated in the western part of the island. The golf course will be one of the most iconic at European level”, he said.
The President of Madeira's Government is certain that Ponta do Pargo, with its prime position and breathtaking ocean views, will soon become a popular resort for golfers.
Thus, according to the regional press, a Nick Faldo–designed 18–hole golf course is being built at a cost of €20 million. In April or May of this year, works on the Ponta do Pargo golf course are expected to resume.
Pedro Fino, regional secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, recently stated that the project was expected to be completed in 2026.
8 million euros have already been invested on the first phase, which should be finished in 2024, and another 12 million are planned for the second phase.
The return of construction on the Ponta do Pargo Golf Course is an effort to take advantage of the substantial financial investments already made there in order to stimulate economic growth in the area and further the development of the western part of Madeira through a distinctive sports sector, namely golf.
In order to attract investment in the urbanisation of the adjacent community, the Regional Government is keen on seeing the Ponta do Pargo Golf Course through to completion.
